Department Introduction

The Mission

The Department of Psychology at Istanbul Kent University, in line with the mission of our university and faculty, has adopted the mission of being a department that educates psychologists who internalize the field starting from the history and historical foundations of psychological science, follow the current developments in the field, adopt ethics and responsibility as a principle in professional practice and research, use and develop technology effectively to contribute to the field and share scientific knowledge, have a high sense of social responsibility, have a solid background to be appreciated at national and international level, and contribute to the field at scientific, social and individual levels.

Program Learning Objectives

  • PLO1. To be able to master the basic concepts, theoretical models, historical movements and current developments of psychology and apply them in their studies. To be able to use the questioning skills related to the field, to link between what they have learned and to analyze the data and to realize the results.  
  • PLO2. To be able to establish a research design, collect data, analyze and interpret data by using basic research methods in professional studies within the framework of psychology science.
  • PLO3. To be able to embrace the values of psychology as a science, work in interdisciplinary projects, value empirical evidence, and adhere to professional and research ethical principles.
  • PLO4. To be able to use the concepts and theories of psychology in approaching and interpreting events and problems in individual, social and cultural issues throughout his/her career.
  • PLO5. To be able to use current technological tools efficiently in professional activities and academic life with effective and active communication and presentation skills.

Program Learning Outcomes

  • PO1. Masters the basic concepts, theories, history and current developments of psychology.
  • PO2. Has knowledge about the subfields of psychology and the working principles of these fields.
  • PO3. Recognizes the value of interdisciplinary studies. Compares the other fields of science with psychology and sees their potential contribution to psychology.
  • PO4. Understands the basic features of psychology for the principles of research and research ethics. Plans and conducts research in an ethical framework.
  • PO5. Recognizes basic research methods in psychology, creates a research design, collects, analyzes and reports data.Uses information technologies effectively in measuring, data collection, analyzing, accessing, expressing and presenting information in the field of psychology.
  • PO6. Searches for resources, uses databases and other information sources in the field of psychology or interdisciplinary studies.
  • PO8. Has critical thinking skills and adopt a scientific approach.
  • PO9. Has a good understanding of the terminology of psychology in both Turkish and English, and accesses information in both languages.
  • PO10. Reconciles theoretical and practical knowledge in the field of psychology and subfields of psychology.
  • PO11. Adheres to the rules of professional ethics in applied areas of psychology.
  • PO12. Works efficiently alone or with others. Communicates effectively and has developed presentation skills.
  • PO13. Has the awareness of social sensitivity and individual responsibility. Uses the knowledge in the field to analyze individual, social and global dimensions.
