DEPARTMENT OF ANALYTICAL CHEMISTRY

Analytical chemistry is the branch of science that deals with

  • the qualitative and
  • the quantitative analysis of the chemical components of the substances that constitute a sample.

Analytical chemistry in the field of pharmacy, researches and develops new analytical methods for the quantitative and qualitative analysis of

  • pharmaceutical products,
  • drug active ingredients, and auxiliaries.

Analytical Chemistry has an important role in drug research and development studies, quantitative and qualitative analysis, validation and quality control of drugs and active ingredients. The main purpose of this branch of science is to ensure that pharmacists have sufficient theoretical and practical knowledge to perform chemical and instrumental analyses of drugs, pharmaceutical products, and drug-active ingredients. In addition, it is among the aims of the Department of Analytical Chemistry to train pharmacists who have basic knowledge in the field of basic principles of analytical chemistry and drug analysis, who can produce ideas applicable to the industry by using their professional equipment effectively, who can design national and international projects, who have written and oral expression skills, and who can use professional tools and equipment.

The Department of Analytical Chemistry, within the Department of Basic Pharmaceutical Sciences of the Faculty of Pharmacy, plays a role in the education of students from the first year until graduation during the 5-year undergraduate education. The Department of Analytical Chemistry gives theoretical and practical courses on the fundamentals of analytical chemistry, and compulsory courses on subjects such as industrial instrumental devices, the use of these devices, analytical method development, and validation.

Our department has an R&D laboratory and a student laboratory consisting of chromatography, spectroscopy and basic laboratory devices used in the pharmaceutical industry. In these laboratories, our students will have the opportunity to learn by personally using many instrumental devices in the practices of the courses given by our department. In addition, our students will take part in TÜBİTAK projects, TÜSEB projects, national and international projects and projects with leading companies in their fields in cooperation with our university.
