DAPARTMENT of PHARMACOGNOSY

Pharmacognosy is a branch of science that studies the biological effects of herbal and natural substances and investigates the processes of drug development from these substances. In our department, we have a broad field of study covering the chemistry of natural products, pharmacological and toxicological evaluations, ethnopharmacology, herbal drug development processes, and sustainable use of natural resources. The isolation and structure determination of biologically active compounds obtained from natural sources, testing the biological activities and possible toxic effects of these compounds in the laboratory, studying the plants used in traditional medicine with scientific methods and bringing them into modern medicine, the processes of transforming herbal raw materials into modern drugs with advanced technologies and the sustainable use of natural products are the main areas of interest of our department.

The Department of Pharmacognosy within the Faculty of Pharmacy, Department of Professional Sciences takes part in the education of students from the 2nd grade to graduation during the 5-year undergraduate education and plays an important role in providing professional competencies to our students. Within the scope of the curriculum, Pharmacognosy 1-2-3 and Phytotherapy courses are taught theoretically and practically by our department.

In the state-of-the-art laboratories of our university, we carry out plant extraction, herbal active ingredient purification, in vitro and in vivo activity studies, cell culture tests, and chromatographic analysis studies. In addition, as a first in our country, we have a modern food supplement production facility and a 1000 square meter waterless agriculture production facility at our university. With the investments made by our university, we can show our students every stage of the plant world from soil to the final product.

At Istanbul Kent University, we invite you to join us on this exciting journey. Let's work together to discover the miracles of nature and contribute to health sciences.
