MASTER OF ARTS PROGRAM IN POLITICAL SCIENCE AND INTERNATIONAL RELATIONS (ENGLISH) (WITH THESIS)
The Master of Arts Program in Political Science and International Relations at Istanbul Kent University seeks to train scholars and experts in the field of political science and international relations. The program focuses on social and political relations at a global and regional level, and examines nation-states’ relations and conflicts with each other, and international organizations’ role in these processes from a theoretical and analytical approach.
In order to graduate from the program, students should complete 8 courses totalling 60 ECTS and a seminar course in two to four semesters. Additionally, they are expected to write a thesis in their third and fourth semesters. In order to start their theses, students should have a minimum GPA of 2.5 out of 4. The program can be completed between four to six semesters.
Graduates of the program can find employment in public, non-governmental or international organizations or can go on to pursue Ph.D. degrees.

COURSE DESCRIPTIONS
Theories of International Relations
In this course, in the face of the changing characteristics of international relations, which began and evolved from the second half of the 19th century and is essentially a 'nation-interstate relations', initiatives aimed at theoretically understanding these relations, these initiatives will focus on new theoretical synthesis trials that try to respond to the multidimensionality of today's international relations. First, the most widely accepted theory is 'idealism' with 'realism', and 'liberalism,' which refers to new synthesis versions of classic theories such as 'neo-realism' and 'neo-liberalism'; then focus on 'critical theories' in international relations.
Research Methods in Social Sciences
In this course, science and politics; Research techniques in social sciences: Hypothesis, concepts and variables, theory, methods, research structure, literature study, research question, numerical techniques, research report writing will be discussed.
Turkish Foreign Policy
Due to its geographical location close to the Middle East, Caucasus and balkans, Turkey's place, role and degree of influence in the international system will be evaluated through the past, present and tomorrow of Turkey's various foreign policy problems.
International Law
This course will focus on the basic concepts of International Law; State, sovereignty, international actors; Global and local Law Separation, International judicial system and institutions, human rights in the international plan protection of the issues.
Turkish Political Life
The course is programmed to help students understand democratic institutions and processes in Turkey and to allow them to make assessments.
International Current Problems
The scope of international policy, the foundations of the globalization process, international terrorism, nationalism, nuclear proliferation, humanitarian intervention, poverty and development, human rights, ecological problems, culture in international politics will be analyzed in this course.
Comparative Political Analysis
The classification of countries, various governance structures, economic systems, the roles of civil society and pressure groups in management, totalitarian and authoritarian regimes, regional and global integration and public policy will be discussed in this course.
Identity Politics
This course will focus on the rise of identity policies, minority rights, sub-state nationalist demands and changing meanings of citizenship, examining the current aspect of the relationship between nationalism and international relations.
European Studies
The European Studies course is designed to promote the educational development of students in the field of European studies. During this course, students will learn the organizational structure and services of the main organizations operating in the public and private sectors in Turkey. Thus, after graduation, our students will have an infrastructure for job opportunities in different sectors.
Regional Studies
This course will analyze regions like Latin America, Africa, Asia, Balkans, Europe, Middle-East, Caucasus, Central-Asia, Far East Regions. The course will focus on political, military, economic, cultural and commercial issues.
International Organizations
The definition and characteristics of international organizations, the legal personality of international organizations, the concessions and exemptions of international organizations will be focused.
Globalization and Politics
This course focuses on national economies, international organizations, foreign capital investments, economic dimension of globalization, global policies of the WTO and IMF, problems of developing countries and development policies, macro economy policies within the world economy.
Political History
The course covers the issues of addressing and analyzing the current international relations system, addressing developments, events, what is happening within and between states and states in the 19th century world.
International Political Economy
This course examines theories of International Political Economy, the central role and importance of International Financial Institutions in the functioning of the world money and credit system; the rise and decline of states in the historical process.
Seminar
This course focuses on literature review, evaluation and implementation of the information compiled by the literature study, preparation of the presentation of the results of the studies carried out, presentation and evaluation of the results of the studies.
