Nutrition Anthropometry Laboratory
Anthropometric measurements are of great importance for determining the nutritional status of individuals and determining the need for energy and nutrient elements while administering appropriate nutritional interventions and preparing nutrition programs. In order to maintain, cure and improve health, the nutritional status should be determined continuously and regularly. Body composition is affected by various factors such as gender, age, race, genetics, nutrition style, exercise, disease. Therefore, individual-specific measurements and evaluations are required.
Nutrition Anthropometry Laboratory is the application laboratory for the course of “Determination of Nutritional Status in Society” in the Department of Nutrition and Dietetics. In this laboratory, students are taught the assessment methods of analysis of body fat, muscle, water, lean tissue and fat tissue distribution with the latest system measurement devices; and the use of the devices that analyze basal metabolic rate and level of abdominal visceral fat, and the evaluation of findings from said devices. In addition, in our laboratory, there are real foods and food replicas, which are exactly the same in terms of weight and size, while our students determine the amount of portions when planning a nutrition program and provide appropriate portion size training for individuals who consult them.
