Faculty of Dentistry Laboratories
PHANTOM LABORATORY
It is the preclinical laboratory organized in a way as to allow our students to receive modern education. In this laboratory, practical applications are carried out to put into practice the basic knowledge of dental students and improve their hand skills. The phantom unit system is a simulation system in which various dental treatment procedures and scientific studies are performed. Istanbul Kent University Faculty of Dentistry offers students a realistic experience in Phantom Laboratories before treating real patients and provides them with the opportunity to practice on models in the right positions. Thus, our students develop their psychomotor and hand skills. In addition, in our Phantom Laboratory, there is also a radiographic X-ray cabinet for educational purposes. Hence, in personal phantom units, our students also learn about radiography while preparing for patient treatment practices in clinics. Our students who spent the first two years of intensive preclinical education, will begin their 3rd year, clinical training, having gained the knowledge and skills required to treat patients in the clinic under the supervision of faculty members.
PRECLINICAL LABORATORY
Practical training in dentistry education consists of highly interconnected preclinical and clinical applications. In our faculty, pre-clinical training begins with the "manipulation" course, which aims to teach dental morphology and develop students' dexterity. In first year, in the theoretical part of the Dental Anatomy and Morphology course, the morphological features of teeth are taught. In the practical part, in the preclinical laboratory, the morphology knowledge is practiced on materials such as soap, plaster and wax. Thanks to the camera and sound setup on the lecturer's desk, our students monitor and practice the applications and teachings of the lecturers simultaneously from the monitors located on their personal work desks.
DENTAL PLASTER ACRYLIC LABORATORY
In the treatment of prosthetic teeth, it is important that students experience the procedures performed in our Dental Plaster Acrylic Laboratory to ensure they better understand and succeed in similar procedures that they will administer to patients in the clinic. In addition, thanks to applied laboratory studies, our students will have the ability to detect and correct problems that may occur during the construction stages of prosthetic processes.
MULTIDISCIPLINARY LABORATORY
Our multidisciplinary laboratory ensure that students convert their theoretical knowledge into practice in the fields of Microbiology, Medical Biology and Genetics, Biochemistry and Physiology. The practice for the histology course is carried out in 2 groups in our computer laboratory where there is a screen for each student. In this application, students examine the textures found in the ‘Digital Collection’ in the digital environment and perform the applications of the lesson subject. According to the guidelines provided in the application of each lesson, they submit a report, which contains all the stages they have performed, at the end of the lesson. In addition, there is also an Anatomy Laboratory where applications of Anatomy are performed.
