Geopolitical Fires: Crises in Türkiye and Ukraine, Syria, and Palestine)
Date : 15.04.2025
The crises surrounding Türkiye have entered a new and pressing phase following Donald Trump's re-election and inauguration in the United States at the end of 2024. Peace negotiations have commenced between Russia and the United States aimed at resolving the conflict in Ukraine. A ceasefire has been established between Israel and Hamas, and the process of hostage-prisoner exchanges is ongoing. Meanwhile, the opposition in Syria is actively working to create a new regime following President Bashar al-Assad's departure from the country. The progression and resolution of these crises carry significant implications for global and regional peace, as well as for Türkiye's stability.
On March 12, 2025, Istanbul Kent University's Strategic Research Centre (KENTUSAM) hosted a hybrid workshop titled "Geopolitical Fires: Crises in Türkiye and Ukraine, Syria, and Palestine." This event brought together esteemed international and national scholars from the United States, the Russian Federation, and Poland to examine the impact of global and regional crises on Türkiye and its adjacent regions. The discussions, which will be published as a policy document reflecting the insights and evaluations shared during the workshop, proved to be exceptionally enlightening and valuable for understanding the current international and regional landscape.
