N. Berna YILMAZ

She was born on July 11, 1953 in Adana. She is a graduate of Nilufer Hatun Primary School, Sisli Terakki High School, Robert College and Bogazici University.

She maintained social activities on a non-stop basis while her husband, Mesut YILMAZ, held office as State Minister, Minister of Culture and Tourism, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Prime Minister and Deputy Prime Minister (1983-2002). Known for the monetary and moral supports she provided to disadvantageous students and disabled individuals, Berna YILMAZ had an elementary school and dormitory for girls, which bear her name, built in Sakarya.

Providing both monetary and moral contributions for establishment of the "School for the Disabled" in Mardin, Diyarbakir and Sanliurfa, Mrs. YILMAZ reached the Social Services and Child Protection Agency's office for the needy, and granted monetary supports various times to help with the improvement of nurseries. She granted scholarships to disabled children in person, eliminating all barriers for their education.

Married with two children and two grandchildren, Berna YILMAZ is the founder and chairperson of the Barrier-Free Education Foundation which provides support for various needs of thousands of disabled individuals and their families such as wheelchair, medication, rental, supplies, scholarship, etc. Mrs. YILMAZ also holds office as the Chairperson of the Board of Trustees of Istanbul Kent University.
