Istanbul Kent University Disability Studies Research and Application Center was founded in accordance with the regulation numbered 30955 and dated 21.11.2019, which was published in the Official Gazette.

The foundation of the Center, was based on the below-mentioned principles of United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (2008), and these principles provide a basis for all the activities of the Center;

(a) Respecting the human dignity and personal autonomy of the individuals, including the freedom to decide for themselves and their independence;

(b) Not discriminating;

(c) Ensuring full and active participation of the individuals with disabilities in the society;

(d) Respecting differences and accepting individuals with disabilities as a part of humanity and human variation;

(e) Equal opportunity;

(f) Accessibility;

(g) Gender equality;

(h) Respecting the development capacities of the children with disabilities and their right to protect their own identities.
